Dorothy Proctor was very much part and parcel of the local tennis community for many years and I’m sure there will be many who will remember her – writes Amanda Barclay, WELTC, who felt it appropriate for Tennis Tayside to publish the Notice of Dorothy’s passing. The formal notice is given below:-
It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death on March 5th 2020 of West End Lawn Tennis Club Honorary Member and former President Dorothy Proctor.
Dorothy was instrumental in securing the future of the club in the mid 90’s, when it was on the point of closing its doors due to falling numbers and poor facilities.
Taking on the role of both Coach and President, she oversaw a complete revitalisation at the club. These efforts were recognised by the club being named Scottish Tennis Club of the Year in 2000. An Open Day was held to recognise this achievement which was attended by over 250 people, with Doddie Weir (former Scottish Rugby Internationalist) as the guest of honour.
Many of our adult members will have fond memories of being coached and playing with Dorothy. She was a huge part of West End Lawn Tennis Club, and she continued to support and take a keen interest in the Club throughout. She was a remarkable lady and a true character.
Our sincere condolences go to all of her family and friends.
The funeral service will take place in Dundee Crematorium, on Thursday March 19, at 12.30pm.
